Hello! My name is Jackie and I’m from San Jose, CA. I live with my husband and our blind dog. I have been teaching English for the past seven years. I taught in Cusco, Peru for a year and online with students from multiple countries for the last six years. I believe that learning should be done in a low-stress environment so I try to embrace my students and make them feel welcome in my classroom. I believe that building good rapport with a student can make all of the difference in the world. It helps student with participation and learning. Inserting different topics that interest them throughout class will help them feel special and in turn get them to engage more with the material. For me, being a good tutor involves getting to know your student, making a connection with them, then personalizing the class to their specific needs. Being able to make an impact on a student and their learning abilities motivates me as a tutor. I feel fortunate to be a part of a student’s journey. There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing your student overcome a learning obstacle or seeing their face light up when they’ve had a breakthrough. When I’m not in the classroom I am learning languages and traveling. I have traveled to over 60 countries! I also speak fluent Spanish, conversational Italian and am learning French.
